During a visit to the West Bank\u2019s Palestine Museum, which is located on the premises of Birzeit University, about 10 kilometers (six miles) north of Ramallah, Berlin\u2019s diplomat Oliver Owcza is jeered by a group of students shouting \u201cGet out!\u201d and forced to return to his vehicle while a crowd runs after him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Videos circulating on X show the students hurling objects at the car as it drives off the premises. Gunfire can also be heard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Germany is considered to be one of Israel\u2019s staunchest allies in Europe. Prime Minister Olaf Scholz was the first of a number of Western leaders who made solidarity visits in the days after Hamas\u2019s October 7 onslaught, and Berlin has intervened on behalf of Israel at the International Court of Justice to refute South Africa\u2019s allegation of \u201cgenocide\u201d in Gaza.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
