{"id":1337,"date":"2020-01-30T07:49:05","date_gmt":"2020-01-30T07:49:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ameforum.net\/?p=1337"},"modified":"2020-01-30T07:49:05","modified_gmt":"2020-01-30T07:49:05","slug":"palestinians-nations-dismiss-trumps-one-sided-deal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ameforum.net\/ar\/palestinians-nations-dismiss-trumps-one-sided-deal\/","title":{"rendered":"Palestinians, nations dismiss Trump&#8217;s one-sided deal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"story-body__introduction\" dir=\"ltr\">US President Donald Trump has presented his long-awaited Middle East peace plan, promising to keep Jerusalem as Israel&#8217;s undivided capital.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Trump&#8217;s initiative, whose principal author is his son-in-law Jared Kushner, follows a long line of efforts to resolve one of the world&#8217;s most intractable issues.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The 50-page political outline recognises Israeli sovereignty over major illegal settlement blocs in the occupied\u00a0West Bank, something to which the Palestinians will almost certainly object. Trump said Israel would be granted security control of the Jordan Valley in the occupied West Bank.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Trump said\u00a0Jerusalem\u00a0will remain Israel&#8217;s &#8220;undivided capital&#8221;. But he also said under the plan, &#8220;eastern Jerusalem&#8221; would serve as a capital of a State of Palestine. He did not elaborate on what he meant by eastern Jerusalem. He later said on Twitter the a Palestinian capital could be in parts of &#8220;East Jerusalem&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Trump had already recognised Jerusalem as the capital of\u00a0Israel, moving the US embassy from Tel Aviv to the city.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Palestinian Response<\/strong><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Responding to the plan, the Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas said Jerusalem is not for sale; all our rights are not for sale and are not for bargain. &#8220;I say to Trump and Netanyahu: Jerusalem is not for sale, all our rights are not for sale and are not for bargain. And your deal, the conspiracy, will not pass,&#8221; he said in a televised address from Ramallah in the West Bank.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The chief of the Palestinian Hamas movement, Ismail Haniyeh, stated &#8216;we reject any agreement, deal or project that undermine the certain rights of the Palestinian people.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Sami Abu Zhuri, a Hamas official, said Trump&#8217;s statement was aggressive and the Palestinians will confront this deal. &#8216;Jerusalem will remain a Palestinian land.&#8217;<\/p>\n<div class=\"article-embeded-block-image article-embedded-card fullwidth\">\n<div class=\"article-embeded-mediaCaption\" data-image-url=\"\/mritems\/Images\/2020\/1\/28\/dfc988d1ea764f1f917709f8f5f6e83a_18.jpg\">\n<div class=\"article-embeded-image\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article-embeded-caption\" dir=\"ltr\"><strong>International reactions<\/strong><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Turkey&#8217;s president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, emphasized that Jerusalem is sacred for Muslims and announced: Trump&#8217;s so-called peace plan proposing to leave Jerusalem to &#8216;Israel&#8217; never acceptable.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Numan Kurtulmus, deputy chairman of\u00a0Turkey&#8217;s ruling Justice and Development Party (AK), also slammed Trump&#8217;s statements on Jerusalem, saying: &#8216;No, Trump! Jerusalem is the capital of the Palestinian state and the heart of the Islamic world!&#8217;<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">The foreign minister of Iran, Javad Zarif, posted on Twitter: &#8216;the so-called &#8220;Vision for Peace&#8221; is simply the dream project of a bankruptcy-ridden real estate developer. But it is a nightmare for the region and the world. And, hopefully, a wake-up call for all the Muslims who have been barking up the wrong tree.&#8217;<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">In the far east,\u00a0 the ministry of foreign affairs of Indonesia issued a statement suggesting that the issue of Palestine shall be resolved based on the principles of the \u201ctwo-state solution&#8221; that respects international law and internationally agreed parameters.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Meanwhile, a spokesperson of China&#8217;s foreign ministry commented on the US proposal, saying: &#8216;We noted media reports on that and are studying this plan. We believe the Palestine issue should be resolved on the basis of relevant UN resolutions, the principles of &#8220;two-state solution&#8221; and &#8220;land for peace&#8221; and other international consensus, which should all be observed.&#8217;<\/div>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Further escalation\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">At least 41 people were wounded after the Israeli forces used rubber bullets and tear gas in the Jordan Valley, the Al-Orub refugee camp and Tulkarem, according to the Red Cross.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas vowed popular mobilisations against the deal, as groups including the Palestinian Liberation Organisation (PLO) and Hamas, which has governed the occupied\u00a0Gaza Strip\u00a0since 2007, called for mass protests.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">From: <strong><em>Agencies, AMEF<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>US President Donald Trump has presented his long-awaited Middle East peace plan, promising to keep Jerusalem as Israel&#8217;s undivided capital.
