China hopes to end the war in Afghanistan as the Taliban promised
China respects the choices of the Afghan people and hopes for a smooth transition, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said on Monday.
China looks forward to the Taliban fulfilling its commitments on ensuring a smooth transition in Afghanistan, curbing all kinds of terrorism and criminal acts, and stopping fighting and terrorist attacks in Afghanistan.
Hua emphasized the need to end the war in Afghanistan, which has been going on for decades. She emphasized the need to give the Afghan people the right to self-determination and form a tolerant government that ensures the safety of the country from any wars or terrorism.
She warned against any influx of refugees from Afghanistan, and that the Chinese authorities would invoke the UN Charter.
The Chinese spokeswoman emphasized that the Chinese embassy in Kabul is operating as usual, and the Chinese ambassador and embassy staff are still performing their duties, despite the Taliban takeover of the Afghan capital.
Most Chinese nationals in Afghanistan have already returned to China according to arrangements made by the Chinese embassy.
