"Against Hate Speech"... Rahul Gandhi's cross-India march reaches New Delhi

Indian opposition leader Rahul Gandhi marched through the streets of the capital New Delhi, rejecting the hateful and divisive rhetoric that they said Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government Narendra Modi adopts it.

More than 1,000 people joined the Gandhi rally against "hatred and division" aimed at restoring the Congress party's popularity after its defeat to the BJP in the 2019 elections.

The march, which has received a better-than-expected public response, will take a nine-day break in Delhi before starting its final leg on January 3 toward Srinagar in the northernmost Himalayan region of Kashmir.

The Unite India March was launched in September from the town of Kanyakumari (southern part of India). It plans to cover more than 3,500 kilometers to reach Srinagar in about 150 days.

The opposition Congress Party dominated politics after independence in 1947, but today it has declined and is barely able to withstand the charisma and populism of Narendra Modi and the BJP's powerful electoral machine.
