'Smuggling fuel'... Iran announces the seizure of a ship in the Gulf

Iranian authorities announced on Sunday that Revolutionary Guards detained a ship in Gulf waters for "smuggling fuel".

The local semi-official Mehr news agency quoted the commander of the Revolutionary Guards Navy's second region, Brigadier General Heydar Henrian Mihdhar, as saying: "This morning, our forces detained a foreign ship flying the flag of an Oceanian country with two million liters of smuggled diesel fuel on board, according to a court order."

"The seizure of the ship took place 60 miles off the coast of the southern province of Bushehr," the military official said.

"The crew was handed over to the competent judicial authorities for further legal proceedings, while the smuggled fuel was transferred to the National Petroleum Refining and Distribution Company, in accordance with the law," he said.

"Naval forces observed the vessel while it was refueling and detained it after it entered the operational area of the IRGC Navy's Zone 2," Brig.
