‘Euphoria’ star arrested during pro-Palestinian protest

Daniel Edelson,

New York police arrested ‘Euphoria’ star Hunter Schafer on Tuesday while she was participating in a pro-Palestinian protest with demonstrators from the Jewish Voice for Peace organization, who attempted to take over the Rockefeller Building’s lobby in New York.

The 25-year-old actress was one of dozens of demonstrators who infiltrated the building in Midtown Manhattan, where NBC Network studios are located, while the “Late Night with Seth Meyers” show hosting U.S. President Joe Biden was being filmed.

The protesters took over the building’s lobby for several minutes before local police forces were called to the scene. They called on Biden to “stop arming genocide” and “end the siege on Gaza now.” A spokesperson for the organization told Ynet that “Hunter was arrested at the protest along with 50 other people. We commend her commitment to Palestinian liberty and a just future for all.”

In videos released on social media, Schafer appears wearing a mask and a black shirt bearing the slogan “Cease-fire Now,” and in footage taken before her arrest she’s seen sitting in the building’s lobby singing along with other demonstrators: “No more weapons, no more war, cease-fire is what we’re fighting for.”

Schafer, a model, actress and activist born into a Christian family and raised by a Presbyterian father, became an icon of the LGBT community overnight when she, a transgender actress, was chosen to portray one of the main roles in “Euphoria.”

“Euphoria” has enjoyed widespread success as the second most-watched series in HBO history after “Game of Thrones.” The American teen drama series starring Zendaya, Jacob Elordi, and Sydney Sweeney, which will begin its third season in 2025, was created by Jewish-American writer and producer Sam Levinson and is based on the Israeli series of the same name created by Ron Leshem, Dafna Levin and Tmira Yardeni.
