China responds to Biden's pledge to defend Taiwan: We will never compromise our vital interests

The Chinese Foreign Ministry responded to US President Joe Biden’s pledge to defend Taiwan, saying: “We will never compromise our vital interests and there is no room for compromise.”

Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said Beijing urged Washington to move cautiously on Taiwan after Biden said the US would defend the autonomous island from Beijing’s attacks.

He stressed that “China has no room for compromise on matters relating to its vital interests”, warning that Washington “should act and speak with caution on the Taiwan issue”.
