China on Wednesday vowed to \u201cdeepen\u201d cooperation with Pakistan as the top diplomats of two Himalayan neighbors met in Beijing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Beijing, however, asked Islamabad to ensure the safety of Chinese personnel, projects, and institutions in Pakistan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This was discussed as Wang Yi hosted his counterpart Mohammad Ishaq Dar, who is also Pakistan\u2019s deputy prime minister, for the fifth China-Pakistan Foreign Ministers Strategic Dialogue, a readout from Beijing said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cChina’s determination to deepen cooperation with Pakistan will not waver,\u201d Wang told Dar, who is on a four-day official trip to China.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAt the same time,\u201d Wang told Dar, \u201cit is hoped that Pakistan will continue to make every effort to \u2026 eliminate the worries of Chinese enterprises and personnel.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The veteran Chinese diplomat said Beijing \u201cis willing to further deepen counter-terrorism and security cooperation with Pakistan.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Wang\u2019s stress on the security of Chinese interests in Pakistan came as five Chinese engineers were killed on March 26 in the Bisham area of northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of the South Asian nation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, the Chinese foreign minister noted the “iron friendship\u201d between China and Pakistan is \u201cheartily supported by the peoples of the two countries and is as solid as a rock and as heavy as Mount Tai.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Beijing calls for \u2018political unity, social stability\u2019 in Pakistan<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Acknowledging Pakistan\u2019s firm adherence to the one-China principle, Wang said: \u201cChina has always firmly supported Pakistan in safeguarding national sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity, and in playing a greater role in international and regional affairs.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Wang said China was quick in extending congratulatory messages to the Pakistani leaders after Feb. 08 general elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cChina believes that under the leadership of the new government, Pakistan will enter a new stage of political unity, social stability, controllable security, and sustainable development,\u201d Wang said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n On the multi-billion-dollar Beijing-funded China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, Wang said Beijing was \u201cwilling to work\u201d with Islamabad to \u201cpool efforts to promote\u201d the construction of an \u201cupgraded version\u201d of the project which connects northwestern China to the Arabian Sea through southwestern Pakistan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThe two sides should maintain good momentum of pragmatic cooperation,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n (Source: AA)<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" China on Wednesday vowed to \u201cdeepen\u201d cooperation with Pakistan as the top diplomats of two Himalayan neighbors met in Beijing.
