في مقطع فيديو متوفر على موقع يوتيوب تم تصويره عام 1978 كجزءٍ من برنامج مناظري محلي على تلفزيون بوسطن يسمى “المحامي”، قدم نيتاي / نتنياهو وجهات نظره على أنها “شاهد” حول ما إذا كان ينبغي على الولايات المتحدة دعم إنشاء دولة فلسطينية. وقارن آخر مقابلة له على CNN مع Jake Tapper، ومن الواضح أن الأفكار التي قدمها في عام 1978 هي نفسها التي يحملها اليوم.

Benjamin Netanyahu has always been an open book. Although the Israeli prime minister is skilled at twisting facts and rewriting history when necessary, he has been very clear on his relations with the Palestinians since day one. The US cannot claim that it was taken by surprise with his strategy regarding the Washington-backed peace formula of the two-state-solution and the illegal Jewish settlements in the occupied West Bank which is intended to be the future Palestinian state. Most, if not all, of Netanyahu’s ideas were developed as a student in the United States when he was known as Ben Nitay. After his graduation, he was given a platform to voice his vision of the “final solution” to the “Palestinian question”, and was applauded for his brilliance and eloquence by the American elite.
In a video clip available on YouTube filmed in 1978 as part of a local Boston TV debate show called “The Advocate”, Nitay/Netanyahu presented his views as a “witness” on whether the US should support the creation of a Palestinian state. Compare his latest interview on CNN with Jake Tapper, and it is obvious that the ideas he presented in 1978 are the same as those that he holds today.
Basically, Netanyahu has his own version of history. In brief, it goes like this: Jews like himself have been living in their homeland for 3,500 years, and the Palestinians want to uproot them. In reality, if Jews have ever lived in Palestine for this period, as he claims, they would have been Palestinian Jews (as some are), not Europeans from Ukraine and Poland. If Jews were once uprooted from Palestine, as the Bible says, it was not done by the “Arabs” as he claims frequently, but by the Romans. The fact is that it is the Palestinians who have been and still are uprooted from their homeland in ethnic cleansing carried out by Zionists like Netanyahu.
Dispelling Netanyahu’s historical lies and distortions is not my intention in this article, though. I want to try to understand his definition of peace in general, and with the Palestinians in particular.
His ideas have more or less remained the same throughout his political career: Palestinians have no right to self-determination; only Jews do. Palestinians do not deserve their own state, because Jordan is really Palestine. Palestinians always define themselves as part of the Arab nation and want a real state, so they have to go to Jordan or any other Arab state and stay there. If they decide to stay in the West Bank, which is “Judea and Samaria”, the heart of the Jewish nation, according to Netanyahu, they might eventually have social and economic rights and a chance to have their own administration with Israel holding the overriding security rights, but this will only happen after reaching a final peace agreement.

Moreover, Netanyahu believes that the West Bank is not occupied territory as defined by international law and the UN, but “disputed” territory. The illegal Jewish settlements built in the West Bank are there to stay. Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank — also illegal according to UN resolutions and international law —are merely “Jewish communities” of Israeli citizens, and he will not drive them out of “Judea and Samaria”.
Until this mythical peace agreement is reached, believes Netanyahu, the Palestinian Authority should fight its own people and work hard to protect Israel, even as Israeli security forces and settlers kill them and demolish their homes and villages. In this twisted scenario, the Palestinians are essentially not interested in peace and only want to uproot Israel. They have to wait until Israel makes peace with all Arab countries, especially Saudi Arabia; only then will they find themselves obliged to reach a “workable peace agreement” with Israel.
It makes no difference who comes to the region, whether it’s US Secretary of State Antony Blinken or even his boss President Joe Biden. Nothing is going to change for the Palestinians. Washington’s discussions about Palestine and Israel will always be a discussion within the Zionist camp; non-Zionists need not apply to take part. You do not need to be of a Jewish background like Blinken or his spokesperson Ned Price to be a Zionist. Christians such as Biden and his predecessor Donald Trump are Zionists. There are even Muslim Zionists, while many of the most active critics of radical, racist Zionism are Jews.
Nevertheless, open discussions about Israel and Zionism see both the state and its racist ideology conflated with Jews and Judaism and lead to critics being branded as anti-Semites. We have seen the absurdity of anti-Zionist Jews being labelled “anti-Semitic” because of their political opposition to apartheid Israel. Throw in “terrorist” and “traitor”, and it is a toxic mix of abuse aimed to stifle free and open discussion about the state of Israel and Zionism. Look at what happened to Representative Ilhan Omar, when she was removed from the Foreign Affairs Committee in the US Congress recently for being openly critical of Israel. The discussion in the US is never about justice, because this approach might end up giving something to the Palestinians. It is always about how to make Israel achieve its goal, primarily occupying all of Palestine and becoming an integral part of the Middle East. When US officials talk about peace, it means Israel’s version of peace, and only Israel’s, because others really do not matter.
After more than 70 years of broken promises from the US and the international community, the Palestinians are left alone to their destiny and should not expect anything from the Americans or anyone else. They have just one realistic option left open to them: to seek their freedom in the best way that they know.
China on Monday said Washington has “no right” to point fingers at Beijing’s relations with Moscow after the US accused China of “considering sending lethal equipment” to Russia to aid in its war against Ukraine.
“China has been actively promoting peace talks and political settlement of the Ukraine crisis. The US has no right to point fingers at China-Russia relations and we do not accept coercion,” said Mao Ning, spokeswoman for China’s Foreign Ministry.
“The US has not only continued to send lethal weapons to the battlefield in Ukraine but also continued to sell weapons to China’s Taiwan region in violation of the Three China-US joint Communiqués. What does the US really want?” Mao asked, according to the Chinese daily Global Times.
CIA Director William Burns had said on Sunday that Beijing was considering sending lethal equipment to Russia.
“We’re confident that the Chinese leadership is considering the provision of lethal equipment,” Burns said in an interview.
“We also don’t see that a final decision has been made yet. And we don’t see evidence of actual shipments of lethal equipment,” said Burns, adding it is important for US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and President Joe Biden “to make very clear what the consequences of that would be to deter it because it would be a very risky and unwise bet.”
US national security adviser Jake Sullivan on Sunday also said there would be “real costs” for China if it provides lethal weapons to Russia.
“From our perspective, actually, this war presents real complications for Beijing. And Beijing will have to make its own decisions about how it proceeds, whether it provides military assistance,” said Sullivan in a TV interview.
“But, if it goes down that road, it will come at real costs to China. And I think China’s leaders are weighing that as they make their decisions,” he added.
About US sanctions against Chinese companies accused of “backing Russia,” Mao said: “We will take firm countermeasures and firmly safeguard Chinese companies’ interest.”
Mao urged the US to stop “spreading misinformation” and lift sanctions.

وقال الجيش الصيني -في بيان قصير- إن “تصرفات الجانب الأميركي تتدخل عمدا في الوضع الإقليمي وتعطله وتهدد السلام والاستقرار في مضيق تايوان، إننا نعارض ذلك بشدة”.
وأوضح أنه يراقب من كثب الطائرات التي تستخدم أيضا في مهام مضادة للغواصات أثناء تحليقها عبر المضيق، مؤكدا أن قواته في حالة تأهب قصوى في جميع الأوقات وتدافع بحزم عن السيادة الوطنية وسلامة أراضيها.
وتعارض بكين المهمات العسكرية الأميركية والسفن الحربية التي تمر في المضيق، وتقول إن “لها حقوقا سيادية وسلطة قضائية” على الممر المائي الذي يفصل الصين عن تايوان، لكن واشنطن تقول إنه ممر مائي دولي.

Sunday’s shooting attack south of Nablus in which two brothers from the West Bank settlement of Har Bracha were murdered and the subsequent riots by dozens of settlers in the Palestinian town of Hawara have brought the West Bank to the boiling point.
On Sunday evening it seemed the IDF and the police had lost control of events in Hawara for several hours, and were unable to stop the rioters’ pogrom. One Palestinian was reported dead and dozens were wounded.
The incidents around Nablus could incite the widespread clashes in the West Bank that the defense establishment has been warning of for a long time now.
The terror attack and the subsequent violence coincided with an international meeting in Aqaba, Jordan organized by the U.S. administration. And they once again demonstrated Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s lack of control over the political and diplomatic situation.
His office tried to downplay the agreements reached at the meeting, at which Israeli officials promised to freeze construction in the settlements. But leaders of the government’s radical right wing – Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich and National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir – assailed the very fact that Israel attended the meeting and declared that the agreements reached there don’t bind them.
The conference in Aqaba was initiated as an American effort, with Jordanian and Egyptian aid, to help calm tensions in the territories, ahead of the start of Ramadan on March 22. But shortly after the meeting began, a shooting attack took place in the village of Hawara, on the main road to Nablus. Brothers Hillel Yaniv, 22, and Yagel Yaniv, 20, were murdered by gunfire, and the terrorist fled.
The terror attack was preceded by a deadly incident in Nablus last week. Last Wednesday, large IDF and Border Police forces entered the Nablus casbah, attempting to apprehend members of the Lions‘ Den organization. A heavy firefight ensued, and 11 Palestinians were killed, among them three civilians. Since the incident, intelligence warnings have piled up regarding Palestinian attempts to avenge the death of these 11.
The Lions’ Den, which the security establishment thought it had overcome some four months ago, is still alive and kicking. The operatives killed and arrested were replaced by new ones, inspired by the local myth. What was once described derisively by Israeli sources as “a bunch of punks” now has real stature in Nablus, and even pretensions to a political party line.
In the flood of condemnations of the Palestinian Authority, for agreeing to send a delegations to the Aqaba summit at the Americans’ request, the Lions’ Den’s statement also stood out.
The summit’s summary statement discussed strengthening the security coordination between Israel and the Palestinian Authority. Currently, despite the mediation efforts, it’ll be challenging to quickly extinguish the flames in the northern West Bank.
On Sunday, dozens of settlers rampaged in Hawara, torching a Palestinian home and causing significant property damage. Even though it was clear to all to expect the violent rampage by Jews in response to the Palestinian terror attack, it appears that the IDF and the Israel Police did not send enough forces to the area and did not manage to take control of the situation. The Palestinian Health Ministry reported that one Palestinian had been killed by gunfire and dozens others were injured from causes including smoke inhalation, assault and gunfire. This is exactly how things could lose control.
On Sunday, Netanyahu called on citizens “not to take the law into their hands.” After bloody attacks that took place under the previous government, it was castigated by the opposition – now members of the current government – who promised that things would look different once they were in charge.
Some two months after the inauguration of Netanyahu’s government, it’s clear that Palestinian terrorism isn’t particularly impressed by political changes in Israel. The tough rhetoric, such as the revival of efforts to advance the death penalty for terrorists, will surely not help matters.
The convening of the conference in Aqaba on Sunday reflects an American attempt to restore a bit of stability to a region that’s been neglected while Washington is preoccupied by troubling moves from Russia and China.
The Biden administration is interested in strengthening the conservative Sunni axis in the Middle East, to block the influence of Iran, but in practice this axis is floundering. Some of its problems stem from current events in the Palestinian territories, and fear that tensions will worsen once the month of Ramadan begins in late March.
The situation in the West Bank is too sensitive, and the Palestinian Authority is too weak, for the tide of violence to be stemmed with a bit of external pressure and promises of American gestures toward the administration in Ramallah.
The weakness of the Palestinian leadership hinders its security apparatus from making good on promises made to American officials. If the PA police sergeants or petty officers fear that the Authority might collapse in a matter of months, they have zero incentive to take on the Lions’ Den militants.
In the background, there’s growing concern in the West and in Israel regarding Iran’s progress toward a nuclear weapon. CIA Director William Burns told CBS on Saturday night that “to the best of our knowledge, the Supreme Leader of Iran has made no decision to continue the weapons program [to fit a nuclear bomb to a missile’s warhead], which we believe was halted in 2003.”
But he added that “in the other two components, enrichment of uranium and the ability to launch a nuclear missile when they develop one, they have made progress.” Burns said it would take the Iranians no more than a few weeks, from the moment they decide to do so, to enrich uranium to 90 percent, as required for weapons purposes, in the amount sufficient for one bomb.
Fire sale of the old pretense
The American fear of escalation in the Palestinian territories also has to do with the regime coup that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is trying to carry out in Israel, and its implications upon the division of powers in the West Bank. Israel has slid another significant step in this dangerous direction, with the agreement dividing authority between ministers Yoav Gallant and Bezalel Smotrich, signed last week.
In practice, this is a fire sale of the old order under which the territories were run. Gallant, under heavy pressure from Netanyahu, was forced to accept most of Smotrich’s demands.
The minister in the Defense Ministry will now hold most of the powers, allowing him to shape the map of construction in the West Bank almost at will, further entrenching the two separate legal systems, for Israelis and Palestinians. This will put an end to the pretense behind which Israel has hid for years – but it also will deepen the understanding in the international community that Israel’s headed toward annexation of the territories.
The move with Smotrich was put together as part of a deal that also included the approval of the new security budget, passed hastily after a rushed, superficial debate. With a budget of 68 billion shekels ($18.5 billion) for the current year, it seems Gallant and new Chief of Staff Herzl Halevi will be able to carry out most of their plans.
But at this point, no one knows how much money will be diverted to prepare the IDF for a possible confrontation with Iran, and how much the ongoing tensions with the Palestinians will cost.
Objection in the air
The escalation of protests against the government’s plans also can be seen in the escalating possibility of reservists choosing to become conscientious objectors. Several senior officers in the Air Force have informed their commanding officers that they’ll no longer be reporting for duty, and intense discussions are taking place within squadrons, among reserve pilots and navigators, on whether to stop volunteering for service, and when.
Some of the concern of Air Force personnel involves the possibility that should the justice system be weakened, it’ll increase their exposure to prosecution for war crimes before international courts, as Israel would be hard-pressed to credibly claim that it operates an effective justice system of its own to investigate such claims, and therefore there is no need for external intervention.
Particularly concerned are El Al pilots, many of whom are still in the active reserve, as they fly abroad regularly and their identity is exposed beyond Israel’s borders.
On Friday a petition was published, signed by over 100 reserve soldiers and officers of the Military Intelligence Directorate’s special forces unit, announcing that they’ll stop serving should the regime coup become law. The most senior signatory, a reserve major general, withdrew his signature at Halevi’s request.
Also, an initiative for a petition of all past intelligence Unit 8200 commanders was put on hold. In this case disagreements arose among the commanders, with some feeling that the time had not yet come for drastic measures, and that it was important to avoid putting too much public pressure on Halevi, who must continue to steer the IDF ship. On the other hand, a new petition was published, this one by reservists from the Military Intelligence research division.
A large intelligence unit, belonging to one of the regional commands, the research division warned its commanders that the unit may not be able to function properly at a planned exercise this summer, as a large number of reservists have announced that they don’t intend to report for duty.
Discussions on objection and “grey” objection by reservists take up considerable time and effort in various IDF units, and awareness of the depth of the crisis sharpens by the hour. Not a day goes by without the Halevi’s bureau receiving news of a similarly based petition or two.

وأعلنت وزارة الصحة الفلسطينية استشهاد الشاب سامح أقطش (37 عاما) وإصابة العشرات، في اعتداءات نفذها المستوطنون والجيش الإسرائيلي جنوبي نابلس.
وشن المستوطنون هجمات انتقامية على منازل الفلسطينيين في هذه القرى، وأحرقوا أكثر من 30 منزلا ومنشأة تجارية وعددا كبيرا من السيارات الفلسطينية، في حين منعت قوات الاحتلال فرق الدفاع المدني من الوصول إلى المنازل المشتعلة.
وأفاد مراسل الجزيرة بأن عشرات من المستوطنين خرجوا بحماية جنود الاحتلال الإسرائيلي إلى الشارع الرئيسي والمفترقات المؤدية إلى نابلس وقاموا برشق المنازل بالحجارة، كما قامت قوات الاحتلال بإطلاق قنابل الغاز المدمع على منازل المواطنين قرب حاجز بيت فوريك (شرقي نابلس).
عملية حوارة
وجاءت هذه التطورات بعد عملية بلدة حوارة التي قالت إذاعة جيش الاحتلال إنها وقعت قرب دوار عينابوس في البلدة، حيث تعرضت مركبة إسرائيلية لهجوم بالرصاص أدى إلى مقتل المستوطنيْن.
وأفاد شهود عيان للجزيرة بأن سيارة فلسطينية صدمت سيارة المستوطنيْن، ثم ترجل منها مسلح وأطلق عليهما النار داخل مركبتهما ولاذ بالفرار.
وقال مراسل الجزيرة سمير أبو شمالة إن جيش الاحتلال دفع بتعزيزات وأغلق مفارق الطرق والمحاور الرئيسية وباشر عملية تمشيط ومداهمة واسعة بحثا عن المنفذ.
وأوعز رئيس هيئة أركان الجيش الإسرائيلي هرتسي هاليفي بالدفع بمزيد من قوات الاحتلال إلى الضفة الغربية، وتحديدا إلى منطقة نابلس لكبح ما وصفه بيان صادر عن الناطق العسكري لقوات الاحتلال “بالاعتداءات التخريبية وأعمال الشغب”، وتعزيز جهود البحث وإلقاء القبض على منفذي عملية حوارة.
وأضاف البيان أن القرار اتخذ في أعقاب زيارة تفقدية أجراها هاليفي إلى موقع العملية في حوارة وتقييم الأوضاع الأمنية في المنطقة.
وحسب الناطق باسم قوات الاحتلال، فإن الجيش الإسرائيلي دفع بكتيبتين عسكريتين جديدتين إلى الضفة الغربية، كما أعلنت قوات الاحتلال تشديد الإجراءات الأمنية في محيط نابلس.
وكان مسؤول عسكري إسرائيلي حذر من فقدان السيطرة التي من شأنها -كما قال- أن تنتهي إلى مجازر؛ في حين واصل وزراء “الصهيونية الدينية” في حكومة نتنياهو تحريضهم للمستوطنين وتوعد الفلسطينيين بمزيد من الاعتداءات.
وفي أول تعليق له على العملية؛ قال رئيس الوزراء الإسرائيلي بنيامين نتنياهو إن قوات الجيش والأمن ستلقي القبض على منفذ الهجوم الذي قتل مستوطنين، داعيا المستوطنين إلى عدم أخذ القانون بأيديهم وفسح المجال أمام الجيش وقوات الأمن لتقوم بعملها.
بدوره، قال وزير الدفاع الإسرائيلي يوآف غالانت إن “انتهاك المواطنين للنظام يعرضهم للخطر ويضر بنشاط قواتنا في مطاردة الإرهابيين”؛ داعيا المستوطنين إلى عدم أخذ القانون بأيديهم.
ردود الفعل
فلسطينيا؛ قالت الرئاسة الفلسطينية إن اعتداءات المستوطنين الإسرائيليين في الضفة الغربية تهدف إلى تدمير الجهود الدولية لمحاولة الخروج من الأزمة الراهنة.
وقالت الرئاسة -في بيان نشرته الوكالة الرسمية الفلسطينية (وفا)- إنها تدين اعتداءات المستوطنين على الفلسطينيين وممتلكاتهم جنوبي مدينة نابلس.
وأضافت أن هذه الاعتداءات أعمال إرهابية تجري بحماية من الجيش الإسرائيلي، وأن هذا الإرهاب ومن يقف خلفه يهدف إلى تدمير وإفشال الجهود الدولية المبذولة لمحاولة الخروج من الأزمة الراهنة.
وحمّلت الرئاسة الفلسطينية المسؤولية الكاملة عن الاعتداءات للحكومة الإسرائيلية.
من جهته، قال الناطق باسم حركة المقاومة الإسلامية (حماس) حازم قاسم إن العملية رد فعل طبيعي على جرائم الاحتلال، مشددا على أن المقاومة في الضفة ستبقى حاضرة ومتصاعدة، ولن تستطيع أي خطة أو قمة أن توقفها.
ودعا صالح العاروري نائب رئيس المكتب السياسي لحركة حماس مساء الأحد الفلسطينيين إلى النفير العاجل لمواجهة المستوطنين الإسرائيليين.
وقال العاروري -في بيان- “ندعو جماهير شعبنا المرابط في فلسطين إلى النفير العاجل والاشتباك مع الاحتلال ومستوطنيه دعمًا وإسنادًا لبلدة حوارة ومحيطها”.
وباركت حركة الجهاد الإسلامي العملية التي وصفتها بالبطولية، مؤكدة أنها جاءت وفاء لوعد المقاومة بالثأر لدماء قادة سرايا القدس محمد الجنيدي وحسام اسليم، وهي ردّ طبيعي ومشروع على جرائم الاحتلال.
من جانبها، أشادت الجبهة الشعبية لتحرير فلسطين بعملية إطلاق النار، مؤكدة أنها تشكل ردا حقيقيا على قمة العقبة التي جاءت لمحاولة إخماد انتفاضة الشعب الفلسطيني.
ودعت حركة التحرير الوطني (فتح) كوادرها إلى التصدي لاعتداءات المستوطنين على الشعب الفلسطيني، مشددة على أن اعتداءات المستوطنين بحماية جيش الاحتلال تعبير عن النهج الدموي لحكومات الاحتلال المتعاقبة.
مظاهرات غاضبة
وخرجت مسيرات غاضبة في عدد من المدن والبلدات في الضفة الغربية ضد الاعتداءات الإسرائيلية؛ ففي نابلس هتف المتظاهرون ضد الإجراءات والاعتداءات الإسرائيلية، كما خرجت مظاهرة حاشدة في رام الله تطالب بحماية الفلسطينيين من الاعتداءات الإسرائيلية في بلدة حوارة وفي جميع المدن والبلدات الفلسطينية.
وتظاهر عشرات الشبان الفلسطينيين مساء أمس الأحد قرب السياج الفاصل بين قطاع غزة وإسرائيل، تنديدا باعتداءات المستوطنين في الضفة.
وأشعل المتظاهرون إطارات المركبات، وألقوا مفرقعات صوتية، وهتفوا بالتكبير وبشعارات ترفض اعتداءات المستوطنين. وبالتوازي مع ذلك، كثف جنود الاحتلال التمركز بالقرب من السياج الفاصل للقطاع.
مواقف دولية
وخارج فلسطين، دعا الاتحاد الأوربي أمس الأحد الجانبين الفلسطيني والإسرائيلي للعمل على “وقف العنف” في الضفة الغربية، والتدخل العاجل لحماية المدنيين ومنع سقوط المزيد من الضحايا.
وعبّر الاتحاد الأوروبي -في بيان نشره على حسابه في تويتر- عن انزعاجه من أعمال العنف اليوم في حوارة بالضفة الغربية المحتلة، وذلك بعد مقتل إسرائيليين اثنين ومهاجمة المستوطنين منازل الفلسطينيين وممتلكاتهم، وإصابة مدنيين وقتل أحدهم خلال هذه الاعتداءات.
من جانبها، قالت الخارجية الفرنسية إنها تتابع بقلق بالغ العنف المستمر في الضفة الغربية -لا سيما في حوارة- الذي ينذر بالتصعيد خارج نطاق السيطرة، على حد تعبيرها.
ودانت الخارجية الفرنسية -في بيانها- عملية إطلاق النار في حوارة التي أدت إلى مقتل مستوطنيْن أمس الأحد، كما عبرت عن رفضها العنف ضد المدنيين الفلسطينيين، ودعت الحكومة الإسرائيلية -كجزء من مسؤوليتها بوصفها قوة احتلال- إلى حماية المدنيين الفلسطينيين، ومحاكمة مرتكبي أعمال العنف التي وقعت أمس، وفق نص البيان.
من جهته، وصف السفير البريطاني لدى تل أبيب نيل ويغان الأحداث في منطقة حوارة بالمروعة، وطالب إسرائيل بالتصدي لعنف المستوطنين الذي أدى إلى مقتل فلسطيني وإصابة آخرين. كما دان ويغان في تغريدة عملية إطلاق النار في حوارة التي أدت إلى مصرع مستوطنين اثنين.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday offered to play a role in ending the Russia-Ukraine war, saying India has been insisting on resolving the dispute through dialogue and diplomacy since the conflict began.
Modi made these remarks during a joint press conference with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz following delegation-level talks between the two countries.
Scholz arrived in New Delhi on Saturday morning for a two-day official visit, the first since taking office in 2021.
“India has insisted on resolving this dispute through dialogue and diplomacy since the beginning of the war,” Modi said during a joint press conference broadcast live by local media.
“India is ready to contribute to any peace process,” he said.
The two leaders discussed a range of subjects, with a focus on strengthening bilateral ties in the areas of clean energy, trade, and new technologies.
The Indian prime minister said, “Apart from being our largest trading partner in Europe, Germany is also an important source of investment in India. The strong ties between India and Germany are based on shared democratic values and mutual interests.”
People-to-people relations between the two countries have greatly improved in recent years, Modi said, adding that “today, new opportunities are opening up in all sectors, and we are encouraged by Germany’s interest in these opportunities.”
Chancellor Scholz, for his part, said the war is a major catastrophe because the world is suffering as a result of “Russia’s aggression against Ukraine,” and that “no one can change borders through the use of violence.”
“We must ensure that the terrible war of aggression has no significant and negative impact on countries in Asia, Africa, and America,” Scholz said.
Regarding the two countries’ economic ties, the chancellor stated that about 1,800 German companies are active in India, providing thousands of jobs.
“We need talent… we need skilled workers. The development of IT and software is booming in India,” he said, adding that “India has so much talent, and we want to benefit from that cooperation.”
(Reuters) – Chinese ambassador to the European Union Fu Cong said European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President Charles Michel may visit China in the first half of 2023, China’s state-backed Global Times reported.
Preparations for the visit by the EU’s top two officials are under way and “very frequent high-level mutual visits” between the EU and China are expected to begin soon, Fu said in an interview published on Friday.
The two sides have taken divergent positions on the year-long war in Ukraine, with EU diplomats criticising China’s refusal to describe the conflict as an invasion or to call for a Russian withdrawal from Ukrainian territory.
Fu said in the interview that EU anger with China over Ukraine was “very irrational” and that China did not want the issue to affect the development of ties with the bloc.
After the Chinese foreign ministry published on Friday a position paper expounding its stance on the war, the EU’s top diplomat in China Jorge Toledo told reporters in Beijing that parts of the paper were concerning.
“There is no mention of an aggressor there which is strange because it’s clear that there is an aggressor and there is an agressee. It’s illegal and unprovoked. So that’s a bit concerning,” Toledo said.
Fu said in December that the war had put China in a very difficult position in its relations with the EU, after Michel urged Chinese President Xi Jinping to use the country’s influence with Russia over its war in Ukraine during a visit to Beijing in early December.

وسط التكهنات والتوقعات بأن تقدم الصين دعماً عسكريا إلى روسيا من أجل مساندتها في القتال ضد أوكرانيا، جددت الولايات المتحدة تحذيراتها من تلك الخطوة.
وأكد مستشار الأمن القومي الأميركي، جيك سوليفان، في مقابلة مع شبكة سي أن أن، أن بكين ستدفع ثمناً باهظاً إن دعمت موسكو عسكرياً.
كما أشار إلى أن بلاده أوضحت ذلك بشكل لا يقبل الشك للصين، خلف الأبواب المغلقة.
لها الحرية ولكن..
إلا أنه أوضح في الوقت عينه أن بكين لم تقدم حتى اللحظة أي مساعدات عسكرية فتاكة.
وأردف قائلا: “لبكين الحرية في اتخاذ قراراتها الخاصة، سواء تقديم المساعدة العسكرية أم لا، إلا أن الخيار الأول قد يرتد بأكلاف باهظة عليها”
أتت تصريحات سوليفان بعد أن أكد مدير وكالة المخابرات المركزية “سي. آي. إيه” بيل بيرنز، أمس أن واشنطن تدرك أن القيادة الصينية تدرس توفير معدات فتاكة” للقوات الروسية.
بوتين ووزير الخارجية الصيني (فرانس برس)
لكنه لفت كذلك إلى أن بكين لم تتخذ بعد قراراً بنقل المساعدات العسكرية إلى الروس.
وكانت معلومات استخباراتية أميركية أفادت سابقاً باستعداد بكين لدعم موسكو بالسلاح والمسيرات، ما قد يقلب مسار الحرب الجارية بين القوت الروسية والأوكرانية منذ 24 فبراير الماضي، وسط دعم غربي عسكري كبير لكييف لمواجهة الروس.
يشار إلى أن الصين التي لم تدعم علانية بتصريحات مسؤوليها الموقف الروسي، لكنها انتقدت أكثر من مرة موقف حلف شمال الأطلسي، محملة إياه مسؤولية استفزاز موسكو وعدم أخذ مخاوفها الأمنية في عين الاعتبار، كانت قدمت قبل يومين مقترحاً من 12 بنداً للسلام بين روسيا وأوكرانيا.
لم تمض أيام على تعبير الولايات المتحدة عن قلقها من التقارب الروسي- الصيني، أعلنت بيلاروسيا عن زيارة رسمية لرئيسها ألكسندر لوكاشينكو، الحليف المقرّب من فلاديمير بوتين، لبكين، الثلاثاء القادم.
وقال المتحدث باسم الخارجية هوا شونيينغ إنه “بدعوة من الرئيس الصيني شي جين بينغ، يقوم رئيس بيلاروسيا ألكسندر لوكاشينكو بزيارة دولة إلى الصين من 28 فبراير إلى 2 مارس”.
وتأتي زيارة لوكاشينكو في وقت تتصاعد فيه حدة التوتر بين واشنطن وموسكو، حيث قالت الخارجية الأميركية، الخميس، إن الولايات المتحدة قلقة من زيادة التحالف بين الصين وروسيا، بعد أن أشاد بوتين “بالآفاق الجديدة” في العلاقات مع بكين وإشارته إلى أن نظيره الصيني سيزور بلاده.
والتقى بوتين بوزير الخارجية الصيني وانغ يي في الكرملين الأربعاء، قائلا إن التجارة الثنائية بين البلدين أفضل من المتوقع ويمكن أن تصل قريبا إلى 200 مليار دولار سنويا، ارتفاعا من 185 مليار دولار العام الماضي.
وأضاف بوتين: “كل شيء آخذ في التقدم والتطور. لقد وصلنا إلى آفاق جديدة”.
كيف ردّت الخارجية الأميركية على تصريحات بوتين؟
نيد برايس المتحدث باسم الخارجية الأميركية قال إن زيارة وانغ لروسيا عشية الذكرى السنوية الأولى للحرب هي دليل آخر على التحالف بين بكين وموسكو.
برايس قال: “نحن قلقون لأن هذين البلدين يتشاركان في رؤية. إنها رؤية… لحقبة يمكن أن تتنمر فيها البلدان الكبيرة على البلدان الصغيرة، ويمكن إعادة رسم الحدود بالقوة”.
وتابع: “لم نر بعد مد جمهورية الصين الشعبية روسيا بمساعدات قتالية، لكننا لا نعتقد أنها استبعدت الأمر من على الطاولة أيضا”.
“البنتاغون” يعلّق
كشفت وزارة الدفاع الأميركية (البنتاغون)، اليوم السبت، أن الولايات المتحدة “لديها أدلة” على اتجاه الصين نحو مد موسكو بسلاح فتاك، لاستخدامه في الحرب على أوكرانيا المستمرة منذ عام.
واعتبر المتحدث باسم البنتاغون باتريك رايدر، أن دخول الصين صراع أوكرانيا ودعمها روسيا “سيزيد من سفك الدماء وإطالة أمد الحرب”، وفقا لمراسل “سكاي نيوز عربية”.
وكانت مصادر مطلعة كشفت لشبكة “سي إن إن” الإخبارية الأميركية أن الولايات المتحدة لديها معلومات استخبارية تفيد أن بكين تدرس تزويد روسيا بطائرات من دون طيار وذخيرة لاستخدامها في الحرب في أوكرانيا.
وأفادت المصادر بأنه “لا يبدو أن بكين اتخذت قرارا نهائيا بعد، لكن المفاوضات بين روسيا والصين حول سعر المعدات ونطاقها مستمرة”.
وأضافت المصادر المطلعة على المعلومات الاستخباراتية، أنه “منذ بدء الهجوم الروسي على أوكرانيا، طلبت موسكو مرارا وتكرارا طائرات من دون طيار وذخيرة من الصين، وكانت بكين تناقش بنشاط خلال الأشهر القليلة الماضية ما إذا كانت سترسل المساعدة الفتاكة أم لا”.
والأسبوع الماضي، أطلقت الولايات المتحدة وحلفاؤها تحذيرا علنيا من الدعم العسكري الصيني المحتمل لروسيا، في محاولة لردع بكين عن المضي قدما في الخطط المزعومة، و”عبور نقطة اللاعودة” وفقا لمسؤولين أميركيين.
ومنذ بدء الحرب، تجنبت الصين إظهار الدعم العلني لروسيا لكنها لم تندد بالهجوم العسكري الذي بدأ في 24 فبراير 2022.
اعترضت طائرة مقاتلة وسفينة حربية صينيتان مجهزتان بحمولة هجومية، طائرة تابعة للبحرية الأميركية فوق بحر الصين الجنوبي، الذي يشهد صراعا على النفوذ بين بكين وواشنطن.
وفق ما نشرته شبكة “سي إن إن”، فإن المواجهة حدثت الجمعة، فوق بحر الصين الجنوبي، وعلى بعد 30 ميلا من جزر باراسيل المتنازع عليها التي تحوي قواعد عسكرية، وجرى خلالها حوار متوتر بين طواقم هذه الأسلحة.
حوار ساخن في الجو
نقل صحفيون من الشبكة، كانوا على متن طائرة الاستطلاع الأميركية، أن طيارين صينيين تواصلوا مع قائد الطائرة الأميركية، قائلين له: “لا تقترب من ذلك، أو تتحمل كل المسؤولية”.
الطائرة الصينية كانت محملة بصواريخ “جو- جو”، وعلى ما يبدو أنهم اقتربوا بدرجة تسمح لهم بالاشتباك بسهولة، ورافقت طائرة الصين الطائرة الأميركية لمدة 15 دقيقة كاملة قبل الابتعاد عنها بخروجها من المنطقة، كما رصد الصحفيون.
بعد ابتعاد الطائرة فوجئ طاقمها بظهور مدمرة صاروخية صينية تتبعهم، وقال قائد الطائرة الملازم أول سلوتر، إن السفينة الحربية كانت محملة بعشرات من صواريخ أرض جو، وتواصلت معنا، قائلة لنا: “أنت تقترب مني على ارتفاع منخفض، اكشف عن نيتك، أنت تعرض سلامتي للخطر”.
ورد سلوتر على السفينة: “الطائرة الأميركية ستحافظ على مسافة آمنة”.
